Services for Dr. David B. Gilliam, 58, of 444 Brookside Dr, a surgeon at St. Anthony’s Hospital since 1919, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Carroll Weir funeral home, 637 E. Broad St.
Dr. Gilliam died Saturday in St. Anthony’s, where he had been chief of staff from 1938 through 1940 and chief of surgery from 1947 through 1950.
He was a graduate of the old Miami Military Institute, Germantown, Pa., in 1913. In 1917 he was graduated from old Starling Medical College and served his internship in Bronx, N.Y.
From 1922-1928 he served as an instructor in surgery at Ohio State University and was a member of the University Hospital staff in 1926 and 1927.
Dr. Gilliam was a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American and Ohio State Medical Associations and Columbus Academy of Medicine.
He was also a member of Phi Chi medical fraternity, Bexley Lions Club, Columbus Country Club and was a past president of the Philatelic Club of Columbus.
He was the grandson of Dr. D. Todd Gilliam and the son of Dr. Earl M. Gilliam, both of whom came to St. Anthony’s Hospital on its founding in 1891.
Surviving Dr. Gilliam are his wife, Louise Jaeger Gilliam; a daughter, Miss Joan Gilliam of Columbus, and his mother, Mrs. Earl M. Gilliam, Columbus.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Monday. Entombment will be in Green Lawn Abbey. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospital Memorial Fund.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Carl Postle, Dr. Albert Landrum, Dr. J. M. Dunn, Dr. Huston Fulton, Dr. C. C. Ross, Dr. Paul Ross, Dr. Franklin Wagenhalis, Dr. Daniel Sanor.
Active pallbearers are Dr. H. Lloyd Smith, Dr. Frank Knoderer, Albert Van Hise, Milton France, Dr. William LeVeck and Clarence Miller.
