Rev. Paul H. Bassett, associate minister at Bexley Methodist church, will officiate at funeral services for Dr. Earl M. Gilliam, 76, a surgeon here for 55 years prior to his retirement in March, who died of a cerebral hemorrhage Tuesday night in St. Anthony’s hospital, on whose staff he had served for 52 years. The services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Carroll Weir funeral home and entombment will be in Amaranth Abbey. Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday evening.
Son of the late Dr. Tod Gilliam, one of the first surgeons in Columbus, Dr. Gilliam was graduated from Starling Medical college in the class of 1888 and was the oldest staff member of St. Anthony’s hospital, having served from the time the hospital opened in 1891.
Dr. Gilliam was an emeritus member of Columbus Academy of Medicine and a member of Ohio Medical association, Goodale lodge, F. and A.M.; Scottish Rite and Aladdin Temple of the Shrine.
He resided at 81 Woodland Av and had his office at 333 E. State St. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Maude B. Gilliam; son Dr. David B. Gilliam, and a sister, Mrs. William T. Lum, all of Columbus.
