Edwin H. ('Ned') Monroe, aged 43, of 29 Winner avenue, former head of the stock transfer department of the Pure Oil Co., died in White Cross hospital, at 12:30 a.m., Monday. He was a patient in the hospital for six months. Death was attributed to carcinoma.
Mr. Monroe was born in Logan, Ohio and was graduated from the high school there. He came to Columbus shortly afterwards, and for a time was employed in the offices of the Hocking Valley Railroad Co. He was with the Pure Oil Co. 17 years prior to resigning because of ill health two years ago.
Surviving him are his mother, Mrs. Clara Monroe; a sister, Miss Florence Monroe; his wife, Mrs. Alice Monroe, and three brothers, Carl Monroe of Dayton; Frank Monroe of Columbus, and James Monroe of Chicago. His brothers were with him at the time of his death.
Mr. Monroe was a member of the Columbus Athletic and the Columbus Country clubs. Services are to be conducted in Schoedinger's chapel, State street at Fifth, Wednesday, at 1 p.m., and the remains will be placed in Amaranth Abbey, Union Cemetery. Rev. E. F. Chauncy will officiate.
