DR. WILLIAM D. MURPHY, 75, PHYSICIAN FOR 50 YEARS, DIES
Funeral services for Dr. William David Murphy, 75, a practicing physician in Columbus for 50 years who died Sunday at his home, 1591 Franklin Park S. after a long illness, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Masonic Temple.
Entombment will be in Green Lawn Abbey by the Denton, Donaldson and Kuhn funeral home.
Dr. Murphy, a native of Locust Grove, O., was a graduate of old Starling Medical College in the class of 1896. For many years he maintained offices with his nephew Dr. Link M. Murphy, at 40 S. Third St.
Dr. Murphy was active in Masonic organizations. He was a member of Magnolia Lodge of F X A M Scioto Consistory of the Scottish Rite, Mt. Vernon Commandery of Knights Templar, Aladdin Temple of the Shrine and the Royal Order of Jesters.
A past potentate of Aladdin Temple, at the time of the death he was secretary of the Temple's Crippled Children's Association. He also was a member of the national Shrine's Crippled Children's Association and devoted much of his time to work for that organization.
Dr. Murphy also was a member of the American Medical Association, the Columbus Academy of Medicine and First United Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two sons, William D. Murphy, Jr., Zanesville, and John A. Murphy, 4766 Bellann Rd., operator of the Uptown Theater.
Friends may call at the home after 4 p.m. Monday and until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Dr. Frank H. Throop, pastor of Central Presbyterian Church will officiate at the funeral service.
Honorary pallbearers will be William Berkhemer, Ray Zerkel, Dr. Judd Wilson, Dr. Harian Wilson, Dr. Donald F. Bowers, Dr. H. E. Boucher, Dr. Albert B. Landrum, Dr. M. E. Millhon, Dr. Russel Means, Dr. V. A. Miller, Edward A. Neal, John Powell, Morgan L. Evans, Ewing Jones, Frank C. Starr, Dr. Claude Perry and Thomas Bangs.
Active pallbearers will be Chester Sherman, Judge Dana F. Reynolds, Ray J. Lewis, H. E. Campbell, Walter Reiter, Robert Cook, Arthur Allen and Charles E. Nixon.
