Lewis K. Osborne, 64, of 2387 Tremont Rd., chairman of the board of Capital Finance Corp. died Tuesday at his home following an illness of five years.
Mr. Osborne had built Capital Finance into one of the largest finance companies in the country, the firm having 110 offices in nine states, six offices in Columbus, including Economy Savings and Loan Co., a subsidiary.
A native of Westerville, he began his career as a messenger boy for Huntington National Bank. After working in Spokane, Wash., for some time, he came back to Columbus in 1919 to establish the Capital Loan Co., forerunner of the present firm. He served as vice president and president of the present corporation before becoming chairman of the board.
He was a Mason, a member of Knights Templar, Scottish Rite, Aladdin Temple, Sandusky Yacht Club, Columbus Athletic Club, Kiwanis Club and Scioto and Brookside Country clubs. He was a member of the board of directors of Columbus Boychoir and a trustee of First Community church.
During his lifetime, Mr. Osborne maintained an enthusiasm for football and yachting.
Surviving are his wife, the former Maude R. Lawson; three sons, L. Kirts Osborne, Jr., C. Bruce Osborne and Lloyd L. Osborne, all with Modern Finance Co. here; seven grandchildren and two sisters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Community church. Dr. Roy A. Burkhart officiating. Knights Templar and Scottish Rite ring services will be held in conjunction with the funeral. Friends may call at Schoedinger funeral home Thursday afternoon and evening.
Burial will be in Green Lawn Abbey.
