Andrew J. Pembroke, 85, founder of Pembroke Insurance Agency, 85 E. Gay St. and a director of the Ohio State Federal Savings and Loan, died Tuesday at his home, 2381 Fair Av. Following a week's illness.
A native of Circleville, Mr. Pembroke came to Columbus in 1879 and in 1885 became state agent for Security Insurance Co. of Connecticut. He represented the latter company continuously until the time of his death.
In 1900 Mr. Pembroke joined with s. M. Shedd in the local firm of Shedand & Pembroke. Upon the death of Mr. Shedd in 1917 the firm became known as Pembroke Insurance Co.
Oldest member of the Elks here, Mr. Pembroke had served as president of Rotary Club in 1916-1917 and was a charter member of the old Ohio Club, which later became Columbus Athletic Club.
Mr. Pembroke was also a member of Junia Lodge, IOOF, Goodale Lodgand, F&AM, Scottish Rite and Aladdin Temple, Columbus Country club and was past monarch of Achbar Grotto.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Schuman Pembroke; a son, Warren W. Pembroke, associated with the insurance agency; daughter, Marcia Pembroke Steffan; and one grandchild, Andrew Pembroke Steffan.
